Juicy Days

November 29, 2017

One of my bridesbabes introduced me to a healthy eating regime that I was super sceptical of, but was so intruigued to try. I’ve always been the same weight more or less since I was seventeen years old, but since having children, I’ve always had a stubborn four pounds around my tummy aka ‘the kangeroo pouch’ that going to the gym and eating healthy just wasn’t doing me any good..

In the run up to my Swan Party, I wanted to try something that was safe, and that worked, so I bought the Jason Vale book 7lbs in 7 days and read it from front to back. I was so inspired and understood exactly what he was try to explain. Detoxing for a minimum of three days eliminates all caffeine and chemicals out of your body, and the bonus is you will lose weight by doing this.

You can do this programme for 3 days, 5 days or 7 days, so I chose to start with the 5 day detox which includes drinking four freshly made juices every day, and excludes, food and caffeine. After reading the book, I downloaded the app which allows you to see all the recipes to make the juices, the method and reason behind why these certain fruits and vegetables have been included and combined and motivational videos by Jason himself.

The downside to this detox is not being able to eat, I am a grazer so I am always snacking. The upside is that the juices taste amazing, include all the superfoods and are actually quite filling. Here is an example of a Day 1 of the 5 day detox;

Ginger Shot

1 x apple
2 cm raw ginger

This tastes amazing, super refreshing and gets your morning metabolism kick-started. Its like a healthy espresso.

Turbo with a Kick

2 x apples
1/4 pineapple
1 handful spinach
1/2 lime
2cm raw ginger

Juice all of the above with a juicer (not a blender!) as this will extract all the pith, seeds and waste.

1/4 avocado
1 small handful ice

Pour the juice into a blender and blend with the ice and avocado.

I make two of these juices at the same time, one at 10am my first juice of the day, and one at 8pm my last juice of the day. These juices are usually nice and thick so they fill you up. They are blended with an avocado which gives it a smooth, creamy taste.

Natural Energiser

1/4 pineapple
1 large handful spinach
1/4 cucumber
1/4 courgette
1-2 fennel
15 pods sugar snap peas
1/2 lime
1 small handful ice

Again I make two of these juices at the same time, I drink one at 1pm and one at 4pm. This juice is like a natural energy drink and gives you a natural ‘high’. Even though it sounds very ‘green’ the pineapple and lime makes a huge difference, it gives a sweet, smooth taste with a kick.

I try to make all my juices fresh but I usually make them all in the morning and store them in thermostats in the fridge and consume on the same day. I transfer my juices into a huge wine glass with a straw to make it look like a cocktail!

By day two and three your body will crash and you will get withdraws from sugar and caffeine, so you are allowed SOS foods which is an avocado or a banana, but only one!

To give your digestive system a rest and your body a break from having to constantly work overtime to get rid off all the waste we eat and drink, this was perfect for me. Its a great excuse to drink lots of water and herbal teas, and more importantly I lost 4lbs in 5 days!

I must admit it was hard at first, but by day four I was flying on a natural energy high. I was still boxing, going to the gym and running around after my baby and toddler. Not only did I survived, but it worked and I will be doing it once a month as part of a lifestyle choice and in the run up to my wedding!
