Je t’aime Paris

October 10, 2018

It has been 15 years since I last visited Paris so I was looking forward to taking advantage of a cheeky weekend away with my husband in July. We had planned to go see Bruno Mars in concert at the Stade de France but it was also the perfect excuse to do some sightseeing and shopping too.

We landed in Paris on a Friday morning and headed straight to the Sofitel Hotel on the Champs Elyesse. The drive was a good hour from Charles de Gaulle airport so arranging a transfer to the centre of Paris is a must! We arrived at the hotel which was which was uber modern juxtaposed with the rustic exterior of the Parisienne streets, and relaxed in the hotel bar with a cappuccino until our room was ready.

Once we had a quick freshen up and change, we headed straight out for a bit of sightseeing. Our first stop was lunch in a cute little cafe to refuel and a tour of the Arc de Triompe. It was a gorgeous Summer day and the landmark was full to the brim of tourists. We walked up to the top of the arc which showcased incredible views of Paris including the Eiffle Tower.

We decided to hit a few shops such as Louis Vuitton, Sephora and Zara, my faves! We walked to the Notre Dame Cathedral and stopped for lunch and a cocktail at the Mandarin Oriental hotel. This particular evening we had tickets to go see the Crazy House burlesque show, so we headed back to the hotel to get ready for the night ahead.

We arrived at the Crazy Horse venue with very little knowledge about what the show was about, but much to my surprise it was one of the best shows I have seen. Topless ladies artistically doing burlesque in creative and tasteful theatrical dance was amazing. All the women were the same size, height and shape but all different ethnic backgrounds. I love all forms of dance so this was a real treat. One routine was a fully naked dancer with light installations accurately placed over her ‘bits’ while she was dancing. It was a very intricate and impressive form of entertainment with a small intimate crowd so everyone can see!

The next day we had a little bit of a champagne hangover but since the World Cup was on, I promised my husband I would watch the football with him. France were playing, so trying to find a bar in Paris was a nightmare. We eventually found a cafe to sit in and not only was the game and the atmosphere electric, but France won!

This evening was a special one, we were going to see Bruno Mars, so I made sure I gave myself lots of time to get ready to hit the show in style. As we arrived at the stadium it was safe to say I was totally over-dressed and my feet were killing before we even took our seats. Huge school girl error. The show kicked off with DNCE who’s hit song was ‘Cake by the ocean’ then the man himself gave us the performance to die for. One of the best concerts I have been to.

Other than it taking 3 hours to get a cab on the way back to the hotel, its was an amazing evening, but the next day was home time and back to our boys. Paris is so much busier than I remembered, but even more beautiful. A weekend wasn’t enough time to see everything I wanted to see, but the perfect excuse to go back next year!
